Sons of the Forest patch adds a glider, door locks, and a mini-boss

0

The first big Sons of the Forest patch has arrived, and the update is packed with cool new tools and other additions for the horror survival game. There’s some very welcome quality-of-life improvements such as the ability to lock doors and move small items of furniture, a new outfit for Sons of the Forest companion Virginia, and a tweak that finally puts a stop to Kelvin’s most annoying habit.

This is the first major Sons of the Forest update since the game’s launch via Steam Early Access, and there’s plenty of stuff for players to dig into. There’s the addition of binoculars to help make scouting out the world a little easier, a hang glider that should prove a fun and fast mode of transportation, and a gate for your defensive walls. Helpfully, you can now lock doors in Sons of the Forest by placing a stick on the interior of the door – but you can no longer exploit a trick to bypass locked doors using a stick.

Your companions also get some much-needed changes. Kelvin will now stop fishing after a certain amount of time, and he’ll stop chopping down your treehouses. Virginia, meanwhile, has a leather suit that can be found in the world. It’s not all good news, however – there’s now a cooldown on sleep, and you can be rudely awoken by nearby enemies if they’re able to reach you while you rest. Fires will drain faster if you don’t keep them topped up with wood, and a hefty Sons of the Forest shotgun nerf sees its damage halved.

There’s plenty of adjustments for the various Sons of the Forest mutants and cannibals, too. They can now attack you by leaping out of trees, so keep your eyes on the canopy above for any troublemakers. They’ll get extra armour on hard mode, although enemies as a whole will have slightly less health on hard. Meanwhile, some cannibal villages will now have lookout towers to keep watch over the nearby area, and a new boss fight will appear in the food bunker.

There’s a range of food tweaks as well, including an increase to the amount of fullness you get from berries but a big nerf to energy drinks, which will now award half the hydration and less energy than before. You’ll also have to compete for those natural resources, as small birds now have the ability to land and eat to replenish their own fullness. All in all, there’s a lot to take in – so check out the full patch notes below for all the details.
