The Meta Quest 3 has finally been revealed, although full details about the VR headset are yet to emerge. Down below, you’ll find everything we know so far about the upcoming VR headset, including its release date, price, rumored specs, and controllers.

Meta’s Quest is set to continue, and the gaming PC headset will likely take a different path to that of the Meta Quest Pro. Yet, the best VR headset contender could feature similar tech under the hood. With that in mind, here’s everything we know about the Meta Quest 3, also known as Oculus Quest 3, including its release date, price, and possible specs.

What is the Meta Quest 3 price?

The Meta Quest 3 price is $499 for the 128GB version.

Meta say it’ll offer an additional storage option of the Meta Quest 3, presumably for a higher price, but is yet to provide details on how much memory it includes, or how much it costs. With the Meta Quest 3 on the way, the Meta Quest 2 is set to drop in price on June 4, with the 128GB SKU dropping to $299.99 and the larger 256GB SKU dropping to $349.99.

Meta Quest 3 specs rumours

The Meta Quest 3 is confirmed to include a next generation Qualcomm chipset, and it’s likely that refers to the leaked Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2. YouTuber and VR analyst Brad Lynch says this new processor’s manufactured in a more efficient 4 nm, uses an Adreno 740 GPU, which allegedly brings a 2.5 to 3-fold performance boost compared to the Adreno 650, supports faster RAM, and enjoys a souped up Neural Processing Unit. All of these beefed up specs will definitely help you play the best VR games with solid performance.

Its predecessor, the Meta Quest 2, is an impressive piece of kit that itself improved upon the original Quest where it counts. However, the Meta Quest 3 will go up against the likes of Sony’s PSVR 2, which boasts 4K HDR OLED panels and a 2000×2040 per eye resolution.

Meta state their new headset will improve upon the Quest 2’s resolution, but it’s uncertain by how much. Brad Lynch says the Quest 3 could use newer uOLED screen tech, which could give the headset an edge over Sony’s future VR offering, especially when it comes to maximising image quality.

The Meta Quest 3 will likely match the Quest 2’s 120Hz refresh rate, and its capabilities could improve with future updates. Meta claim the Meta Quest 3 will be “the first mainstream headset with high-res color mixed reality”, but we’re not exactly sure what that means just yet. We’ll probably hear more on September 27.

Lynch revealed CAD designs that show the Meta Quest 3 as a mixed reality headset with a soft strap similar to that of the Quest 2. While the Pro features enhanced tracking, the designs show that the Meta Quest 3 doesn’t feature either body or eye tracking support. This could change before an official announcement, but it’s looking more likely that the Quest 3 is instead geared towards gaming rather than the overall social Metaverse.

Meta Quest 3 controllers

Meta has redesigned the Meta Quest 3’s Touch Plus controllers, losing the outer tracking rings so the controllers take up less space. The controllers will feature the same TruTouch haptics debuted by the Meta Quest Pro controllers, while hand tracking and Direct Touch tech lets you interact with your virtual surroundings with just your hands. No more details are available at this stage, but we imagine we’ll hear more about the controllers and the rest of the Meta Quest 3 at this year’s Meta Connect conference on September 27.
